Mezzo-soprano Abigail Dock will advance to the semi-finals of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions after securing First Place at the New England Regionals competition. Abigail tied for first place with soprano Christine Lyons from a dazzling field of 14 singers. Her performance included the rarely heard “Lyubasha’s Song” from The Tsar’s Bride by Rimsky-Korsakov, and “Cruda sorta!” from L’Italiana in Ageri by Rossini. The judges included Sophie Joyce, Director of the Met’s Lindemann Young Artist Program, Dean Anthony, Director of the Janiec Opera Company at The Brevard Music Center, and John Keene, Head of Music Staff at Seattle Opera. Winners of the semi-final auditions will advance to the Grand Finals competition on March 31, on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House.
