Breaking the Gilded Cage | Barbara Quintiliani in Recital

From the very beginning of soprano Barbara Quintiliani’s musical studies, the song recital has held a place of honor, and the Marilyn Horne Foundation alumna has been heard in song from stages throughout the world. Dedicated to exploring the repertoire of under-appreciated composers of generations past, Quintiliani offers "Breaking the Gilded Cage," a program of works by American women including two composers active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries: Amy Beach and Mary Elizabeth Turner Salter. Though Beach remains a better known composer for her prolific musical output, Turner Salter contributed important works to the canon of American song and was a founding member of the American Society of Women Composers.
