Emma Rose Sorenson

Emma Rose Sorenson has been praised by the Chicago Tribune for her “striking voice” and the Boston Classical Review for “ringing high notes”. The “tall, lithesome beauty with a vivid mezzo-soprano voice” (WTTW Chicago Tonight) divides her time between the operatic stage and a thriving modeling career, while fostering her love of ensemble singing as a regular chorister at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

In March of 2023, Sorenson made her solo debut with the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Passenger 3 in the world premiere of Roumain, Shaw and Adams’ operatic trio, Proximity. This season will also see Sorenson’s return to Boston Lyric Opera to play the role of Eliza in Rhiannon Giddens & Michael Abels’ Omar, and performances as a soloist in Beethoven’s 9th with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra. Sorenson will spend the summer of 2023 as an Apprentice Artist with Santa Fe Opera where she will cover Susan Graham and also make her company debut as Geneviève in a performance of Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande.

Sorenson spent the summer of 2022 as a Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theatre of St. Louis, where she covered the roles of Miriam in Awakenings, Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte, and Mama in Harvey Milk. Her other recent roles have included Nicklausse in Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel with Union Avenue Opera; the title role in Missy Mazzoli’s Song from the Uproar: The Lives and Deaths of Isabelle Eberhardt with Chicago Fringe Opera, which she later covered as an Apprentice Artist with Cincinnati Opera; Javotte in Manon with Des Moines Metro Opera; Jill All Alone in the Gilbert & Sullivan Company of Chicago’s Merrie England; Stasi in The Csardas Princess with Chicago Folks Operetta; Frou Frou in The Merry Widowand a “sprightly and snarky” (Boston Globe) portrayal of Mary Paterson in The Nefarious, Immoral but Highly Profitable Enterprise of Mr. Burke and Mr. Hare with Boston Lyric Opera.

Emma has been a recent winner of the Kansas City District Met Council Auditions and a semi-finalist in the Lotte Lenya Competition presented by the Kurt Weill Foundation. She received her bachelor’s degree from Webster University and her master’s degree in music from The Boston Conservatory, and now makes her home in Chicago.
