Praised as a “tall, lithesome beauty with a vivid mezzo-soprano voice” (WTTW Chicago Tonight), Emma Rose Sorenson is known for a capturing stage presence and striking vocal quality.
This season, the Chicago-based mezzo-soprano will be making her Santa Fe Opera debut as Geneviéve in the final performance of Pelleas & Melisande, and will be featured as an Apprentice Opera throughout the summer season. She will also be seen at Lyric Opera of Chicago understudying the role of Passenger 3 in the world premiere of Roumain, Shaw & Adams’ anticipate opera Proximity. Later this spring, Emma will be making her symphonic solo debut in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra. She will also return to Boston Lyric Opera to sing the role of Eliza in their upcoming world premiere production of Rhiannon Giddens & Michael Abels’ Omar. Other recent roles include Second Lady understudy in The Magic Flute and Mama understudy in Harvey Milk with Opera Theater of St Louis, Nicklausse in Les Contes d’Hoffmann with Union Avenue Opera. In 2020, Emma was a winner of the Kansas City District Met Council Auditions, and semi-finalist in the Lotte Lenya Competition presented by the Kurt Weill Foundation.
